I wasn't late, the appointment was early
I finally had my dentists appointment today. The good news is that it only cost me £15. The bad news is that £15 was a fine because I was supposed to turn up the previous day and hadn't. I'm normally extremely punctual when it comes to appointments, sometimes to the point of obsessiveness - I've been known to scope out areas before hand to ensure that I know where I'm going and the best route to take as well as ensuring I have various contingencies covered. I really do loath being late for anything and few things will make me crankier than realising I'm tardy... so I'm not quite entirely sure what went wrong today. I knew the appointment was for the 11th. And I knew that today was the 12th. But I still turned up on the wrong day. Sigh.
I've remarked before than if I'm going to be late for anything, it's not going to be by mere minutes, but more likely by hours or days. At least I'm staying true to form...

My parents once showed up for a wedding a whole week late...
Mija and I were an hour late for a wedding once. The wedding was in Cincinnati OH and we were staying with Mija's grandparents just across the border in Bloomington IN. We left right on time, travelled for exactly the correct amount of time, and arrived right on time... an hour late. We even had the wedding time correct.
It's just that (parts of) Indiana remain on "God's time" the entire year. For us mere peasants, this means that they don't adjust for daylight savings. So half the year they're in the same time zone as OH, and the other half they're not. No-one in the rest of the country can keep track of this and rarely has need to try. We did, but we didn't, so we were late.
Luckily, the ceremony was over an hour, so we caught some of it.
I was at the wedding that Mija and Kevin were late too and boy, were they surprised by the time difference!
You get FINED when you miss an appointment for a DENTIST? That's ridiculous!
